Intent
At Bellfield, our Key Stage 2 curriculum is designed to challenge, inspire, and prepare pupils for the next stage of their learning journey. We aim to deepen knowledge across all subjects while developing independence, resilience, and critical thinking. Children are encouraged to take ownership of their learning, ask big questions, and apply their skills in meaningful ways. Our curriculum promotes creativity, collaboration, and curiosity, ensuring pupils leave primary school confident and ready for the transition to secondary education.
Implementation
Learning in Key Stage 2 is carefully sequenced to build on prior knowledge and extend understanding. English and mathematics are taught daily, with a strong focus on fluency, reasoning, and problem-solving. Foundation subjects such as history, geography, art, music, computing, and languages provide breadth and balance, allowing pupils to explore diverse topics and develop specialist skills. Lessons are enriched through practical investigations, debates, and creative projects that make learning exciting and relevant. Wider opportunities include educational visits, residential trips, sporting competitions, and workshops, giving pupils real-world experiences and fostering confidence. Transition activities in Year 6—such as visits to secondary schools, joint projects, and leadership roles—prepare pupils for the next stage. For SEND learners, lessons are adapted with tailored resources, scaffolding, and additional support to ensure inclusion and success.
Impact
By the end of Key Stage 2, pupils will have secure knowledge across all subjects and the confidence to apply their learning independently. They will demonstrate resilience, creativity, and the ability to work collaboratively. Through wider opportunities and transition activities, pupils will feel prepared and excited for secondary school. All children—including those with SEND—will leave Bellfield as curious, capable learners with the skills, knowledge, and confidence to thrive in the next stage of education and beyond.
