PSHE

Intent

At Bellfield, we want all pupils to be accepting and respectful of different cultures and faiths, enabling them to make informed decisions about moral and social situations. Our curriculum helps children develop a strong sense of self, resilience, and independence, preparing them for lifelong learning and positive relationships. From the earliest years in EYFS, children begin to explore feelings, friendships, and routines, laying the foundations for emotional literacy and well-being.

Implement

 

Our PSHE curriculum is carefully sequenced across the year, with progressive lessons that build on prior knowledge. Each half term focuses on a key theme:
Being in My World, Celebrating Differences, Dreams and Goals, Healthy Me, Relationships, and Changing Me.


These themes are revisited annually to ensure depth and progression. In EYFS, learning is delivered through stories, circle time, and play-based activities that help children understand emotions and relationships. Across the school, lessons provide real-life contexts, helping pupils navigate friendships, emotions, and decision-making. Our restorative approach and whole-school BEAMS ethos promote positive behaviour, emotional articulation, and mutual respect. For pupils with SEND, lessons are adapted with visual supports, simplified language, and additional adult guidance to ensure full participation.
 

Impact

 

By the end of EYFS, children will begin to recognise and talk about feelings, understand simple rules, and develop early social skills. By the end of primary school, pupils will be confident in expressing their thoughts and beliefs, understand the importance of listening to others, and make informed choices.

They will develop resilience as a life skill, knowing when to seek support and how to grow positively. Our approach equips all children—including those with SEND—with the tools to thrive socially, emotionally, and academically.
