PE

Intent
At Bellfield, we aim for every child to experience a wide range of physical activities, participate in sporting clubs, and engage in inter-school competitions.
We promote healthy, active lifestyles and recognise the value of PE in developing both physical and mental well-being. Our curriculum encourages enjoyment, resilience, teamwork, and a lifelong love of sport. We are committed to inclusion, ensuring pupils with SEND receive adapted activities and support so that every child can access and succeed in PE.
Implementation
PE is taught through a progressive curriculum that builds skills year on year.
In EYFS, pupils develop fundamental movements, balance, agility, and coordination through play-based activities and structured sessions. These foundations are strengthened in Key Stage 1 and refined in Key Stage 2 through creative activities, competitive games, and opportunities to take on leadership roles.
Lessons focus on exploration, planning, practising, and improving personal bests, supported by high-quality resources and clear feedback. Key Stage 2 pupils act as Sports Leaders, planning and delivering supported sessions to develop communication, leadership, and teamwork.
For SEND learners, lessons are adapted with differentiated tasks, visual prompts, and additional adult support to ensure full participation. Teaching is designed to be fun, inclusive, and challenging, ensuring pupils experience success and positive competition.
Impact
Our PE curriculum inspires pupils to be physically confident and active, embedding values such as fairness and respect. Through varied activities and competitive opportunities, children develop skills, resilience, and a positive attitude towards health and fitness. High-quality teaching and assessment ensure progression for all pupils—including those with SEND—and prepare them for lifelong participation in sport.
