PSHE
Intent
At Bellfield, we want all of our pupils to be accepting and respectful of all cultures and faiths in order to make informed judgements about religious and moral situations. We encourage them to develop a sense of self whilst learning that we are all different. We want all children to be resilient and independent; preparing them for lifelong learning.
Implement
Our PSHE curriculum is set out in our long term plan over the course of the academic year to ensure coverage. Progressive sequences of lessons are then planned and detailed in our medium term planning which shows depth and accurate subject knowledge which builds upon prior learning for our children.
Through our carefully planned sequences of lessons, at Bellfield we give children the opportunity to relevant learning experiences which help them navigate their world and the way they conduct relationships with themselves and others.
Each half term, all year groups, from EYFS through to Year 6, focus on a different element which is built upon every year to create a sequential and progressive curriculum throughout the school. Our focuses each half term are; being in my world, celebrating differences, dreams and goals, healthy me, relationships and changing me. Following this sequence each year ensures optimum progression.
Our restorative approach to dealing with behaviour and feelings at Bellfield ensures that children feel confident and able to articulate their emotions in a way which suits them but also gives all parties the opportunity to be heard. We link this with our whole school BEAMS approach which promotes positive praise across all that we do at Bellfield.
Impact
At Bellfield, our children will be confident in talking about their own thoughts and beliefs and can articulate why they believe certain scenarios and situations are right or wrong.
We want to give our children the tools to become resilient, not only in their learning, but as a skill they can take with them throughout their life. This enables our children to be able to ask for support whilst also developing themselves in a positive way.
Our children can all talk at length about why it is important to listen to one another’s thoughts and feelings and how we can support each other in making the right choices for ourselves.
