Rainbow Room
At Bellfield Primary School, we deliver a broad and balanced curriculum, which seeks to inspire and motivate all learners.
Children in our ‘Rainbow Room’ provision follow an adapted curriculum, based around the whole school ‘theme’ but focused on basic skills development. Our ‘theme’ curriculum covers two years. Each theme lasts a term and includes the teaching of all curriculum areas.
Children’s learning is focused on basic skills in Literacy, Mathematics, Phonics, Fine/gross motor movements and Social interaction skills development.
The curriculum is also designed to allow for weekly ‘life skills’ lessons.
Life skills lessons include shopping, reading a timetable, learning to tie shoelaces, learning to tell the time, baking, cooking, basic health and hygiene, links with the local elderly residential home, gardening and growing their own vegetables. (These are just a few examples)
Pupils in the Rainbow Room also follow daily speech and language programmes. Programmes are devised and overseen by our Private Speech Therapist service.
Our SENDCo plans the sequence of learning for pupils and oversees the teaching to ensure pupils are meeting the National Curriculum requirements, as well as the individual educational needs of each pupil.
